Schlitterbahn Vacation Village
BDY is providing master planning, architecture, and project coordination for the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village (SVV) project. This project is a 370-acre, $750 million year-round vacation destination resort located in Wyandotte County, Kansas.
Amenities include a water resort, a riverwalk, shopping, dining, boat taxis, tree-house lodging, hotel lodging, cabin lodging, and entertainment venues all focused around the Riverwalk and water resort. The resort’s main attraction, a 30-acre water park, can entertain up to 12,000 guests per day in the summer and features a Convertible Water Resort Enclosure (CWRE) for indoor water park use; with a capacity to house 4,000 guests at one time during the colder months.
The SVV will revolve around the Water Resort and include a Riverwalk patterned after the San Antonio’s famed Riverwalk; 750,000 sq. ft. of retail space and entertainment development is planned along the Riverwalk. Anchoring the Riverwalk will be a 200,000 sq. ft. Scheels’ All Sport Retail Destination building. The water resort will feature a completely landless waterpark system that will eliminate queue lines and replace them with an “Endless Waterslide”; which connects all of the waterslides end to end--the Transportainment River. The resort will feature miles of interconnected waterways and include signature attractions such as the Torrent Tidal-Wave River, the Downhill River, and the Master Blaster.
The SVV is planned for up to 1,500 lodging accommodations that will include a high rise hotel with guest rooms and condo type suites, unique Treehaus buildings, and variety of Cabin styles and sizes including Mini-Lodge Buildings.
SVV-Kansas City will also feature the Midwest’s first indoor skydiving experience. SkyVenture is a state-of-the-art controlled flying experience in which guests enclosed in a huge clear cylinder will soar on wall-to-wall airflow created by multiple overhead fans.
Construction has begun on Phase-I and is scheduled for opening in 2009. Construction on other phases will continue through 2011.
