	Broadway Shops The Broadway Shops Retail Center is located in Columbia Missouri, where the University of Missouri and several other upper level educational institutions are located. The site is located on Broadway, one of the busiest thoroughfares in the area and in the midst of intense land development. BDY worked closely with the City of Columbia to balance the layout and design of the architecture with the needs of the city in terms of retail and traffic impact. The unique, narrow sloping site called for the development to consist of a two-story building, with both levels accessed at grade. Because of this creative design, the developer was able to increase by 75% the amount of retail area on the site. The style of the architecture is intended to reflect the historical context of the community, with its variety of styles, quality of materials and general sense of proportion and place. The architecture is derived from downtown Columbia and is reminiscent of a Main Street developed over time. This 40,000 SF project had a total project cost of $4 million.
