Washburn University Moore Bowl

Washburn University, a Division II school in the MIAA conference, commissioned BDY to master plan and to design improvements to Moore Bowl – a facility first built in the 1920’s. The master plan included the demolition of several temporary structures serving as a hospitality room, press box, concessions and public restrooms that were outdated and in need of renovation to meet current ADA and code standards.

Occupying the heart of the campus, the University mandated the design of the new facilities must reflect the quality of an academic facility and to take advantage of every opportunity to gain multiple uses. The project consists of the following components: Grandstand Renovations, Historic Entry Improvements, New Northwest Entry Building, and Bianchino Pavilion. In addition, the master plan calls for new landscaping and decorative fencing around the entire perimeter of the stadium. Stadium engineering will provide for the hospitality areas to double as classroom and campus meeting space as needs arise. The total project cost was $4.3 million.
